Jamaican scientist makes prostate cancer breakthrough

Jamaican scientist Dr Henry Lowe last night threw a lifeline to men worldwide when he announced that he had developed a formula that can reduce and eliminate prostate cancer, the number one cause of cancer deaths among males.

“I am pleased to announce that we have reached the final stages in the development of the Alpha Prostate Formula, which will be on the market in the next three months under the Eden Gardens brand,” Dr Lowe told guests at the launch of Bio-Tech R&D Institute at the Terra Nova Hotel in Kingston.

Expert: HIV-AIDS fight must target racism, poverty

The stigma of HIV-AIDS weighs heaviest on certain communities but it is a global issue, says Clemon George, a professor and HIV-AIDS researcher at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology.

“HIV is a chronic infection that affects everyone,” he said in an interview Wednesday at the Italian Cultural Centre in Halifax, where he gave the keynote address at an event sponsored by the Nova Scotia Advisory Commission on AIDS marking World AIDS Day.

HAITI-UN reports significant increase in cholera cases – St. Lucia on alert

The World Health organization (WHO) Tuesday said that 1,648 persons had died as a result of the cholera outbreak in Haiti and that more than 72,000 others had been treated for the water borne disease which first surfaced in late October.

Education Plans Series of AIDS Workshops During School Year

What can be done in the Virgin Islands to reduce the spread of HIV by 2015?  The V.I. Department of Education joins the nation and world in the observance of World AIDS Day on Wednesday, Dec. 1. Efforts to bring awareness of the disease to the forefront and educate young people openly are ongoing.

Local magistrate honored for works in HIV advocacy

Magistrate Gloria Septra Augustus has been honored for her efforts in reducing the spread and impact of HIV in Dominica and the Caribbean.

For years Augustus has spearheaded and participated in a number of HIV educational initiatives including a recent film “It Only Takes One” which she wrote and co-produced.
