The Bahamas still has the highest HIV adult prevalence rate in the Caribbean, a region that has the highest HIV prevalence rate in the world outside of sub-Saharan Africa, according to the UNAIDS 2010 Global Report.

Fifteen percent of BVI adults are diabetic

The president of the British Virgin Islands Diabetic Association, Bennett Smith, is worried about the large number of diabetics in the territory.

In a message to mark the 30th anniversary of the Association, Smith said, “We know that diabetes is the major cause of lower limb amputations and renal failure, making dialysis necessary.”

Haiti cholera toll surpasses 2400

Haiti’s cholera death toll has jumped by some 210 people, with more than 2,400 now having succumbed to the epidemic, health officials said on Wednesday, after days of hope that the outbreak had begun to taper off.
